Carol Elaine (Bunnell) Allred

Carol Elaine (Bunnell) Allred was born in Greely, Colorado, to Orval Eugene and Mildred Hewitt Bunnell, on December 27, 1935. She was a Christmas baby and was named “Carol.” She was the first grandchild to DA Bunnell and Sadie Curts Bunnell.

She spent some time at the Hereford Inn with Grandma Sadie, DA, and her horse Rowdy. Her father moved the family to Worland to open a veterinary clinic. Carol spent her childhood in Worland, Wyoming. She met Stanly Allred from Ten Sleep during the State Fair in Douglas. Before settling in San Bernardino, California, they married and started a family in Fort Collings, then lived in Billings, Montana, and Salt Lake City, Utah. Both Stan and Carol were teachers in the Sun Belt.

Carol was very proud when she achieved her master’s degree in education. She taught elementary and middle school until her retirement. She traveled in her Chrysler Imperial and small travel trailer from British Columbia to Alaska during the summer. She took her cat with her for one year as a travel companion.

Carol retired in Worland, Wyoming, to care for her parents and spend time with her children and their families. All her children settled in Wyoming to raise their families. Terri Craft was the first to relocate from California to Wyoming, then Jennifer, Jeff, and eventually Jay moved from San Diego to Worland. Jay later settled in Sheridan, and Jennifer moved to Colorado.

Carol worked at the senior center driving bus and substitute teaching. She spent some time working for the local newspaper and ran a trailer park.

Carol relocated to Colorado with her daughter Jennifer Bartels in Rifle in 2015. She lived in Grand Junction at the independent living facility, The Atrium. She later moved to The Oakes in Fruita, transferring to the Grand Valley Care Center in Rifle during COVID.

Living to be 87 years old, Carol outlived her father, Orval Bunnell; her mother, Mildred Bunnell; her son Jeff Allred; Stan Allred; her granddaughter Jessica Allred and her brothers, Gene and Tom Bunnell. Carol is survived by her sister Janet Bunnell Lovelace-Grand Junction, daughters Jennifer Allred Bartels – Rifle Co and Terri Allred Craft-Worland, Jay Allred-Sheridan Wy.

Grand Children: Lindsay Craft Link, Michelle Craft Decker Rafferty-Co, Jared Craft-Wy, Kaleb Craft-Wy, Elizabeth Craft-Wy, Valarie Baker-Co, Blair Bartels-Co, Trevor Bartels-Co, and Daniel Bartels-Mi; Great Grand Children: four girls and five boys.
