Dr. Donald P. Carone, of South Salem, died October 15, 2024, at HopeWest Hospice Center in Grand Junction, CO. Born in White Plains on March 20, 1949, he was the son of Dominick and Angelina (Ascenzi) Carone. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Leslie (Koptiuch), his daughter Lindsay, his son Russell (Tara), his grandchildren Cal and Remi, his sister JoAnn Scala (Peter), and other extended family members.
He was happiest spending time outdoors, exercising, gardening, hiking locally and in the National Parks, sailing on Long Island Sound, fishing, and most especially, spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.
Dr. Carone grew up in Bedford Hills, NY where he attended Bedford Central schools, graduated from Mercy College, earned two Master’s Degrees from the University of Bridgeport, and a Ph.D. in Psychology from Hofstra University. He worked as a school psychologist at Fox Lane High School where he was known as “Dr. Don” for 29 years and he had a private practice helping children and young adults in Darien, CT. He was affable, warm, and magnetic, making people feel seen and understood inside and outside his office.
A Celebration of Life will be held for him at the South Salem Presbyterian Church on March 22nd at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to HopeWest Hospice at HopeWestCO.org and the Hoving Home at hovinghome.org.
