HopeWest Receives $10,000 Grief Reach Grant from New York Life Foundation
Grand Junction, CO — HopeWest received a $10,000 capacity building grant from the New York Life Foundation to support the HopeWest Kids grief program.
HopeWest Kids, the only program of its kind in western Colorado, provides grief and bereavement services to children, teens and their families who are coping with the serious illness or death of a loved one. Specially trained counselors offer grief education and counseling in Delta, Mesa, Montrose, Ouray and Rio Blanco counties. More than 600 children and teens across western Colorado were served by HopeWest Kids last year.
“We are so grateful to the New York Life Foundation for their investment in our HopeWest Kids program,” said Christy Whitney-Borchard, President and CEO of HopeWest. “Their generosity will allow us to continue helping grieving children and families at such a vulnerable time in their lives.”
The New York Life Foundation created the Grief Reach program to help providers overcome barriers to bringing grief support services to youth not served by existing bereavement programs. One hundred and ninety-five Grief Reach grants totaling nearly $6 million have been awarded since the program’s inception in 2011.
