A Loving Tribute

Laveta Shay

October 21, 1911 – April 6, 2010
Submitted by Jacquie Chappell-Reid

Laveta was an Oklahoma girl with laughing blue eyes and a wanderlust! She left the family farm to become a traveling nurse and met her, “Charming Billy,” Bill Shay, a handsome big city boy from New York, while working in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Together, they adventured to the wilds of New Mexico and raised four children in the city of Tucumcari, “a well-known stop on Route 66”. She had an endless curiosity, as well as extraordinary patience, and instilled a love of life and learning in all her children. She lives on in all our hearts.
