Sylvia Jean Davis, 89, passed away December 14th at the Hope West Care Center in Grand Junction, Colorado after battling cancer for over a decade. She will be remembered for her faith, positive outlook, vibrancy, and hugs.
Sylvia was born on 11/26/35 in Sugar City, Colorado where she grew up raising sugar beets to be sent to the town’s sugar factory and converted into sugar. After graduating from high school, she worked in a clerical position at the Pueblo Army Ordinance for 6 years. She married Leo Royce Davis on 11/11/56 and moved to Fowler, Colorado. In 1970, the family moved to Grand Junction, CO,
In 1979 Sylvia returned to working for the government at the VA Hospital in Grand Junction, CO doing various jobs; her favorite being eligibility and death detail. She loved her veterans and worked until she was 80 taking care of them. Her regret was having to retire due to health reasons or whether she would have been working there until her final days.
Sylvia was a caring, devoted, supportive mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. A lifelong Lutheran, her Christian faith was an important part of her life, and she enjoyed singing in the church choirs – especially with her son Richard. She loved being active and outdoors.
Sylvia is survived by daughter Pamela Jean Malone, son Richard Royce Davis, brother Robert Grasmick, granddaughters Sara Jean Erfurth (husband Nathan Erfurth), Courtney Ann Malone (husband Matt Mitchell), and great-grandchildren James Edwin Erfurth and Evelyn Sylvia Erfurth.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HopeWest Hospice, which provided such loving care and support for Sylvia and her family. A memorial service will be held on December 29th at 2:00 p.m. at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Grand Junction, CO.
